KNEE ANKLE FOOT ORTHOSES (KAFO)
KNEE ANKLE FOOT ORTHOSES (KAFO)
A knee-ankle-foot orthosis (brace) is a customized leg brace that covers the entire leg and customized to the specific needs of an individual. It spans the length of the knee, ankle and foot in an effort to support the muscles, stabilize the joints and assist safe ambulation.
KAFOs provide stability to the knee and foot when needed during the stance phase of ambulation and knee hyperextension control from midstance to the terminal stance phase in the gait cycle
KAFOs are prescribed for reasons which include: To align some or all the joints in your lower limb or limbs to reduce stress on the joints, reduce pain and improve ambulation. To provide support and protection to weak joints and provide stability.
